A rogue immortal, Harlequinn was a mercenary that used information against the Edeners to make a life on the surface. He is not directly affiliated with any Immortal faction. He has an attitude that is dismissive not only of both the immortal factions, but also of all modern mortal humans. Harlequinn is a womanizer and master thief.

Early history[]

Harlequinn was initially a priest in the church in Scotland in the early 1500s. He was raised an orphan in the church and unbeknown to him the nurse who raised him was planted by Evangeline Leifreik in order to foster friendly contacts in the church. Unlike other hardline priests in the church, Harlequin is kind and worried about the humanity of those who live in his parish. He was extremely dedicated to his faith with God though and considers this relationship as ultimate in his life. After a plague breaks out, Harlequinn is contacted by Evangeline to help fight it in order to save lives. He agrees though she warns him some of her methods are not inline with the church and may be considered sacrilegious. Despite this he agrees and goes with her, Bennu on Angus McKay's ship to the area in the north. He and Evangeline have a romantic relationship despite this contravening his vows of celibacy. It is revealed that Vordock is the source of the plague which infected the Scaradoth centuries ago. A battle ensues and Harlequinn is mortally wounded in the fight. Evangeline brings him to Leviathan to cure him but he refuses the Starstone's healing power as he considers the immortality as severing his destiny to spend eternity with God in heaven. As Harlequinn suffers from the illness, Evangeline overcome by his love for him heals him with the Starstone, against his wishes. Fealing separated from his religious life, Harlequinn reacts angrily, accusing Evangeline as acting in her own selfish interests and leaves Leviathan.

Later it is revealed that in the 1990s, Harlequinn has turned into a master thief and womanizer, betraying his morals as a priest. He finds Lisette Mainsibles who is being abused at an orphanage as a child. He takes her under his wing and trains her to be a thief like him. As his ward he comes to love her as his own and spends several years raising her. As a teenager she becomes very emotional and he feels that he cannot trust her to keep their secrets and keep them safe. He sets her loose after she chases after her friends from the orphanage in order to set them free. When she is wounded, he provides her with a large sum of money in order to support herself and live a happy life until they can meet again.

Season 1[]

Seinshun seeks out the assistance of Harlequinn to help them in the fight against Leviathan. Harlequinn helps Macallan Orsel infiltrate Nankatsu Industries and they escape through a keyhole and find themselves in Guardian One. Shortly after they learn that the automated Guardian Two submersible is pursuing and attacking them and they work to defeat the AI vehicle, hiding in a deep sea lake to disguise themselves. While Macallan and Anton see a hole in the seawall where they surmise the malfunctioning Starstone is located, Anton and Macallan use two Mechsuits to enter the hole and access the starstone. While they are away Guardian Two tracks down Harlequinn and Tulley's Guardian One, the two manage to escape in two other mechsuits. While at the starstone, Anton is wounded by the dangerous radiation of the malfunctioning starstone. Macallan manages to bring him out and Harlequinn says there is only one nearby medical centre for him, Leviathan.

The group descends into the Marianas Trench and goes into Leviathan where Harlequinn gives a tender greeting to Evangeline Leifreik and it is obvious the two are lovers. Evangeline agrees to help Anton on Harlequinn's word, even though she considers him a traitor and danger to Leviathan. Later after Evangeline and Harlequinn make love, he leaves her chamber and sees Bennu install something into Leviathan's computers. Bennu captures Harlequinn and tells Evangeline that Harlequinn installed a dangerous virus into the city's computer system. Harlequinn denies the accusations and verbal sparring match ensures, Harlequinn reveals Bennu is actually Mr. Krigerson. In the end, a heartbroken Evangeline believes Bennu, that her lover Harlequinn has betrayed her.

Bennu takes Harlequinn to an interrogation chamber where he tortures Harlequinn, burning off his hand. Harlequinn manages to escape, though this all seems part of Bennu's plan.
