Oberlin St. Clair is Jeffery Tulley's best friend and also serves as first mate on the Hail Mary.
Season 1[]
Oberlin convinces Tulley that they need Macallan and her money to pay off their debts and continue their search for treasure after that. He tells Macallan that they can daisy chain their submersible technology together, in order to reach the Cedar Elm at the great depths it is at. While Tullley and Macallan are below the ocean he is capture by Whitt Roberts and drugged and taken into capitivity on an airship, 80,000 feet in the air.
During his captivity on the airship called the Idrasil, Whitt Roberts performed chemical testing on Oberlin, torturing and prying information about Macallan or Tulley. He also intended to keep Oberlin in order to threaten Tulley, who is his best friend. Oberlin convinces Roberts to free one of his arms and he chokes Roberts unconscious. He attemps to escape from the Idrasil, stealing the briefcase Roberts valued so much and that apparently allows him to talk to the gods. Oberlin sustained heavy injuries and his finger is shot off by Roberts, in turn he manages to rip off Roberts' ear. He finds an escape pod from the now damaged and plummeting airship and leaves the vessel landing in a Chinese rice paddy. He was picked up by a Chinese secret agent, Mai Lee, and joins her on the run from Whitt Roberts and the Blackdoor Group.
Thinking that Roberts is dead, Oberlin and Lee go to Sanctuary a secret and impregnable medical facility. The injured Roberts also finds treatment in the facility and realizes that Lee and Oberlin are there with the valuable briefcase. Roberts breaks the ultimate code of Sanctuary when he exacts violence on the nurses and guards in an attempt to recover the briefcase. Lee and Oberlin engage in a fire fight and escape Roberts. Lee buys tickets on an extremely expensive train to Nepal and takes Oberlin with her into the single room luxury train telling them that they must recover a starstone in Tibet. Lee undresses in front Oberlin as they get ready to dine in the train, saying she wants a drink. Looking at her Oberlin says he wonders what is for dessert. They dine that night and Mai Lee reveals she works for the Blackdoor Group but she works for a separate unit, Door 3. Oberlin has questions and they go back to their room to discuss further. Lee again undresses in front of Oberlin but he obviously sense she is trying to distract him from his questions. She then finishes telling him of the story of her father Dr. Teng Hseui and his search for the starstone. They then went to the dining car for a fine dinner with plenty of cognac, or maybe just the cognac.
